I am busy. Everyone is busy. And sometimes I forget to make the time for yoga that I want/need to. I work full-time in communications outside of H.E.Y and sometimes those 40 hour weeks seep into my free-time in the form of late meetings, deadlines, and anxiety. And on top of work priorities, I try to make time for the gym, my husband, friends, and family as well.

When I find myself cut off from yoga, I notice a sense of chaos in my day-to-day. But it can also feel overwhelming to make the space for yoga, let alone anything else. But there are little ways to add it back in, which can snowball into longer practices as I find a routine again.
Something that we make to be a lifelong practice goes through ebbs and flows and is always part of a process. There will be days or weeks where I dedicate all of my free time yoga and days, weeks, months, where I don’t want to touch my mat. Just remember to be patient with yourself and your practice.
Here are some easy ways I add yoga back into my life.
- Meditate for 5 minutes – Whether I make the time to do this in the morning, between meetings, or before bed, it is still space I’ve made for yoga. I often find myself meditating around noon/my lunch break.
- Cat/Cow – I sit at my desk all day, and my back can feel the pressure. Sometimes I’ll take a pause between meetings to practice cat/cow and other spinal stretches. This can take me anywhere from 3 to 30 minutes, depending on my schedule.
- Listen to a Vibrations Playlist – This is great for anytime of my day. I can listen while I shower, work, write, or walk. There are a variety of playlists on Spotify and some include mantras, so you can set your intentions. I’m the type of person who always needs background noise, so this is very doable to me.
- Go to a class – Sometimes I can’t get myself to focus on yoga unless I have a teacher sitting in front of me. Attending a class either online or live and supporting local studios gets me the jolt I need to get back into practice. It also helps to be in a community where I can feel connected to others with a similar interest or passion for yoga.
- Focus on a pose – We all have poses that we dream about doing effortlessly. Spend sometime just trying to get into the pose and focusing on the separate asanas that can prepare you for it. Finding success in your goals can be the ultimate motivator to get you back into your normal yoga flow.
